(FreedomWire.org) – Not letting a tragedy go to waste, the Biden administration is exploiting the recent massacres in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, New York to push for strict gun control measures. Since the psychotic shooter took the lives of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary last week, both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been on a gun grabbing tour.

Over the weekend, Harris attended a funeral for one of the victims of the Buffalo shooting and while giving remarks at Ruth Whitfield’s service, Harris hijacked the mourning of family and friends to call on lawmakers to ban “assault weapons.”

“Everybody’s got to stand up and agree that this should not be happening in our country,” said Harris.

“We are not sitting around, waiting to figure out what the solution looks like,” she said, continuing to fumble her words, “We know what works on this. It includes… let’s have an assault weapons ban.”

“An assault weapon is a weapon of war,” Harris added, “with no place in a civil society.”

In reality, however, there is no such thing as an “assault weapon.” The type of weapons used in Buffalo and Uvalde fire no faster than any other semi-automatic, such as a Glock 19 pistol or a Ruger 10/22 hunting rifle. This term is mere propaganda that politicians use to conflate the AR-style rifles with machine guns. And based on many comments online about people thinking these guns are “fully automatic,” the propaganda works.

Josh Sugarmann, founder and executive director of the Violence Policy Center, laid out this strategy of misdirection and obfuscation in a 1988 report on “Assault Weapons and Accessories in America,” saying that because “few people can envision a practical use for these guns,” the public should be more inclined to support a ban on “assault weapons” than a ban on handguns. While handguns are by far the most common kind of firearm used to commit crimes, they are also the most popular choice for self-defense. Proscribing “assault weapons” therefore sounds more reasonable.

The fact is that more people die by “personal weapons” — which according to the FBI are someone’s “hands, fists, feet, etc,” than die at the hand of an AR-style rifle.

This propaganda over weapon types is nothing new and anti-gun politicians have long channeled this emotional response to incite fear. It is important to point out as well that the “anti-gun” politicians are actually only half anti-gun. When they say ban guns, they only want to ban your guns, not theirs.

(FreedomWire.org) – President Biden raised eyebrows on Monday when he spoke about what he considers sensible restrictions on “high-caliber weapons” in the wake of the horrific mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, last week.

The president recalled visiting a trauma hospital in New York, where he explained doctors showed him X-rays of gunshot wounds that were caused by different firearms.

“They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — may be able to get it and save the life,” Biden told reporters outside of the White House. “A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.”

He went on to claim “there’s simply no rational basis for high-caliber weapons in terms of thinking about self-protection, hunting.”

So while most Democrats have targeted what they call “assault weapons” in the wake of the mass shooting, Biden appears to be setting his sights on handguns, too, which isn’t the first time he’s singled out one of the most popular firearms in America.

(FreedomWire.org) – West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin has a lot of power in the United States Senate. He doesn’t hold a leadership role, but with the Senate’s 50-50 split it means he has a lot of hold over what has a shot of passing and what doesn’t.

On gun control, he hasn’t really budged much.

In the wake of the Buffalo mass shooting, Senate Democrats want to hold a vote for gun control. The problem for them is that Manchin isn’t on board with their plans.

The racially motivated mass shooting in Buffalo is putting new pressure on Democrats to consider gun-control legislation, but once again Manchin  is emerging as a problem for them.

On Tuesday, Manchin said, his old proposal negotiated with the retiring GOP Sen. Pat Toomey (Pa.) that could expand background checks for commercial transactions is the best option.

“I support the Manchin-Toomey, I’ve always done that,” he said. “The Manchin-Toomey is the one. I think if you can’t get that one, then why try to do something just for basically voting for the sake of voting?”

However, he’s right that it’s the bill with the best chance of passing an actual vote, but just barely.

Manchin can ultimately dictate what bills go where in the Senate because he’s one of the only Democrat not interested in voting in lockstep. He can’t vote in lockstep with other Democrats if he wants to hold onto his job.

That’s the saving grace of the moment because if Manchin did decide to move in lockstep, the only thing that would protect our Second Amendment rights would be the filibuster.

The truth of the matter is that while this push is happening because of Buffalo, a universal background check law wouldn’t actually have made an impact. New York already has one and, as we can see, it did nothing to stop the shooter from obtaining a firearm.

Why are Democrats trying to vote on something that isn’t going to pass anyway? It is all for show. They need to put on a performance so they can tell their base that they tried.

Thankfully, Manchin isn’t playing the game.

(FreedomWire.org) – Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert along with other conservatives destroy Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot after she issued a “call to arms” after the leaked Supreme Court draft that purports to end Roe v. Wade.

As protests have raged outside of the homes of some of the conservative members of the Suprem Court, and as Catholic churches have been vandalized, the embattled Chicago mayor issued her “call to arms.”

“To my friends in the LGBTQ+ community—the Supreme Court is coming for us next. This moment has to be a call to arms,” she said in a tweet.

“We will not surrender our rights without a fight—a fight to victory!” she said.

That was when Rep. Boebert responded to her by simply calling her an “Insurrectionist.”

“Excuse me. Insurrection is your thing. Not ours,” the Chicago mayor said in a tweet.

That tweet triggered Rep. Boebert into hitting the Chicago mayor with a truth bomb.

“6 killed and 18 wounded in your city this past weekend. Nearly 200 murders this year so far. Go fix your city, hack,” she said.

And she was not the only conservative who was furious with Mayor Lightfoot.

“You hate the Second Amendment and firearms. How you gonna fight?” Beth Baumann said.

(FreedomWire.org) – President Biden just established a new set of executive orders on gun control. He said “no amendment is absolute,” while maintaining that “nothing” he is recommending “impinges” on the Second Amendment.

“Today we’re taking steps to confront not just the gun crisis, but what is actually a public health crisis,” Biden said from the White House Thursday.

“Nothing, nothing I am about to recommend in any way impinges on the Second Amendment,” the president said, calling arguments suggesting that those constitutional rights are at stake “phony.”

“No amendment, no amendment to the Constitution is absolute,” he said. “You can’t yell ‘fire’ in a crowded movie theater — recall a freedom of speech. From the very beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own. From the very beginning that the Second Amendment existed, certain people weren’t allowed to have weapons.” He also said, “So the idea is just bizarre, to suggest that some of the things we’re recommending are contrary to the Constitution.”

The president stated that gun violence in the United States “an epidemic.”

“Let me say it again, gun violence in this country is an epidemic,” Biden said. “And it’s an international embarrassment.”

Vice President Harris added, “I’ve seen with my own two eyes what a bullet can do to the human body … and I’ve fought my entire career to fight this violence and to pass reasonable gun safety.”

“What are we waiting for? Cause we aren’t waiting or a tragedy… We’ve had more tragedy than we can bear,” she said. “The solutions exist… people on both sides of the aisle want action, real people … so all that is left is the will and the courage to act.”

Republicans, meanwhile, have expressed their suspicion of Biden’s agenda, which goes much further than the actions he is announcing Thursday. The president has said he supports an assault weapons ban, voluntary buybacks of assault weapons, wants to repeal a law that prevents gun manufacturers from being sued for crimes people commit with guns, and much more.

“By appointing the anti-gun Merrick Garland as attorney general and nominating David Chipman, formerly a senior staffer at the leading gun control lobby, to head ATF. Biden has made clear his sights are set on restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners while ignoring criminals and foregoing substantive measures that will actually keep Americans safe,” the National Rifle Association (NRA) said in a statement.

“Further, the proposals Biden announced tonight could require law-abiding citizens to surrender lawful property and enable states to expand gun confiscation orders. The NRA will fight this nomination and ill-conceived executive actions,” the NRA stated.

(FreedomWire.org) – Instead of trampling on the Second Amendment, Democrats like Biden should toughen up on the offenders who use guns to facilitate illicit activity.

President Joe Biden told Americans on Monday that regulating firearms is the best way to combat rising violent crime in U.S. cities, but taking away the gun rights of law-abiding Americans doesn’t rein in criminals, especially those let off the hook by soft-on crime progressives.

Violent crime, often perpetrated using firearms, is on the rise in many American cities. In 2021 alone, at least 14 Democrat-controlled urban hubs reported all-time high homicide records.

Even though this historic crime streak is even plaguing cities with strict gun laws, the Biden administration wants gun parts, such as frames and receivers, to be serialized and regulated as regular firearms so they can be traced. This would require customers who purchase gun kits from retailers to undergo a background check like they would if they were buying an already-assembled firearm.

“All of a sudden, it’s no longer a ghost. It has a return address. It’s going to help save lives, reduce crime, and get more criminals off the streets,” Biden said.

What Biden failed to mention in his lie-riddled gun-control speech is that build-your-own guns make up a remarkably small portion of the firearms used to commit crimes in America. To put it in perspective, New York City police seized more than 6,000 illegal guns in 2021. Only about 200 of them did not have serial numbers.

New polling suggests that 61 percent of voters are not pleased with Biden’s handling of crime, so now the White House is clearly trying to take action to combat this negative perception with random rules ostensibly to curb gun violence. Chances are, however, any rules regulating so-called “ghost guns” won’t have the effect on crime that Biden claims they would.

Media outlets often frame the increase in guns without serial numbers as a big problem for crime-plagued cities, but the fact is that a large percentage of these criminals obtained their guns illegally.

A 2019 Department of Justice survey of imprisoned criminals found that at least 43 percent of offenders obtained their firearms via the black market. Only 10 percent made a purchase from a federally licensed firearms store, which is where Biden’s new rules would be enforced. In other words, Biden’s new gun rules won’t change the crime rates because his policies target purchasers who buy from gun retailers, not the black market.

Instead of trampling on the Second Amendment to supposedly combat rising crime, Biden should encourage members of his party and progressive judicial activists to toughen up on the offenders who use guns to facilitate illicit activity.

Earlier this year, California’s soft-on-crime Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation released from prison Smiley Allen Martin, one of the gunmen accused of going on a shooting spree in downtown Sacramento last week. Martin was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2018 for domestic violence and assault. If not for his early release under the state’s prison capacity reduction plan, Martin would still be locked up.

Prosecuting and locking up offenders is pivotal in combatting crime, but it’s not something Biden or Democrats are focused on promoting.

In fact, for most of the last month, the White House has actively defended progressive criminal reform policies and people such as Biden’s Supreme Court pick Ketanji Brown Jackson who are guilty of using them to let dangerous offenders off the hook.

Taking away the gun rights of law-abiding Americans doesn’t stop dangerous criminals from obtaining firearms and committing crimes. Instead of trying to legislate crime off the streets, Biden and Democrats should focus on prosecuting and punishing offenders to the full extent of the law.
