Lou Dobbs was one of President Donald Trump’s staunchest supporters on Fox. Now that the election is over and many are going turncoat on the President, Dobbs finds himself without a job. Dobbs’ show, which began in 2011, was the highest-rated show on Fox Business. So what went wrong?
Dobbs was among many media personalities who raised questions about the integrity of voting machines. But recently, in what appears to be a targeted assault not only on Fox News but conservative figures in general, Dobbs was sued alongside Judge Jeanine Pirro, Maria Bartiromo, Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani. This frivolous $2.7 billion defamation suit was filed by Smartmatic, alleging that the defendants spread lies that the company had rigged the election against Donald Trump.
Though Democrats pretend that the idea the election was rigged is crazy, half of Republicans believe the election was rigged. And if half the people in the building think it’s on fire, it’s probably on fire. Dobbs seems to confirm that the lawsuit was the reason for his removal, tweeting an article about it. He also tweeted a “thank you” to President Trump, who had voiced his support following the continued purge of his supporters:
Fox News played coy with Dobbs’ dismissal. “As we said in October, Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on Fox Business – this is part of those planned changes,” a spokeswoman said, refusing to elaborate on why the network canned its highest-rated host. “A new 5 p.m. program will be announced in the near future.”
Dobbs’ time slot will be filled, for now, with a rotating cast. He remains under contract, so he is not free to find employment elsewhere.
